One of Tamil cinema’s most personal and closely watched stories just got a significant update. Thalapathy Vijay, who announced his retirement from acting earlier this year to pursue a political career, is now at the centre of divorce proceedings — and reports suggest the superstar is looking to settle the matter with a staggering Rs 250 crore alimony payout to his wife of nearly 27 years, Sangeetha Sornalingam.

What’s Happening Between Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha?

According to a report by IndiaGlitz, Vijay is reportedly planning a financial settlement with Sangeetha as part of the divorce process. The figure being discussed is Rs 250 crore — an amount that, if confirmed, would rank among the largest celebrity divorce settlements in Indian entertainment history.

Sangeetha had reportedly filed a petition for divorce, and the couple’s separation has been the subject of intense speculation for weeks. Reports suggest that Vijay’s alleged extramarital involvement with another actress may have played a role in the breakdown of their 27-year marriage, though no official statements have been issued by either party.

Why This Story Has Gripped Tamil Nadu

Vijay isn’t just a film star — he’s a cultural institution. After ruling Tamil cinema for three decades, he formally stepped away from acting to launch his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. His personal life had long been kept carefully away from the spotlight, which is exactly why this divorce story has hit so hard.

Sangeetha, who was herself a popular actress in Tamil and Malayalam films before marriage, has largely stayed private over the years. The couple have two children together — Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. Given Vijay’s enormous fan base and political ambitions, how this separation unfolds will be watched closely not just by fans but by the political landscape of Tamil Nadu as well.

No official statement has yet been released by either Vijay or Sangeetha’s representatives. Until then, all figures and claims remain based on media reports and should be treated accordingly.
