Could the next global gaming hit come from a bedroom in Bengaluru? Roblox thinks so. At its “UNBOX ROBLOX” event in New Delhi, the company released an India Economic Impact report and backed it with a bold claim from Sunil Rao, its Managing Director for India and South Asia: this is the age of small studios.
Why India, Why Now?
Roblox is a platform where users play and also build their own games. India is a natural fit, with more than 500 million gamers, the world’s second-largest gaming population. The report projects industry revenue growing from ₹6,300 crore in 2025 to ₹9,200 crore by 2028. That is about 13% annual growth, against roughly 5.1% worldwide.

Built in India, Earning Worldwide
Indian creators are not just serving local players. On average, overseas users make up 52% of their daily audience, led by the US, UK and Japan. Creators also rely on community learning to get started: 65% first learned through the Roblox community and 62% through YouTube tutorials. Mobile dominates on the player side, with 88% of surveyed users accessing Roblox on their phones.
What It Means for You?
If you’re a student, hobbyist or indie developer, the report suggests a low barrier to entry and a global audience.
