Roblox, the global online gaming and creation platform, has announced the appointment of Sunil Rao as its Managing Director for India. Rao is set to assume his role in May, aiming to bolster the company’s operational footprint and strategic initiatives within the Indian market.
In his new capacity, Rao will function as Roblox’s most senior representative in India, tasked with overseeing daily operations and aligning local market demands with global product and business objectives. A primary focus for Rao will be to support India’s community of Roblox developers and creators. He is expected to facilitate local studios in utilizing Roblox’s tools for platform growth and commercial ventures. The platform reported that its global creator community generated over $1.5 billion in 2025, offering accessible tools for coding, design, and entrepreneurship, alongside safety systems designed for a secure user experience.

Rao’s Extensive Experience
Sunil Rao brings over two decades of leadership experience across global technology platforms, venture capital, and developer ecosystems. Prior to joining Roblox, he was a member of the leadership team at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he directed Strategy and Corporate Business Development for the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region.
Before his tenure at AWS, Rao served as a Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, collaborating with founders and emerging companies to support innovation within the technology sector. Earlier in his career, he played a critical role in developing and scaling developer ecosystems at companies such as Symbian, Nokia, and Google, contributing to the growth of prominent mobile and internet platforms globally.
