Some detective dramas keep it local. “Road” throws out the map entirely — chasing a killer who doesn’t recognize borders, languages, or jurisdiction. Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller is officially in production, and the pairing behind it might be one of the most compelling international team-ups K-drama has offered yet.

Directed by Han Jun Hee, “Road” follows two detectives — one Korean, one Japanese — investigating a string of grisly murders marked by twisted bodies and cryptic dying messages. The case kicks off in Tokyo with a body bearing a message written in Korean; soon after, a mirrored case surfaces in Korea, this time inked in Japanese. As the pattern repeats, both nations realize they’re hunting the same killer, forcing an unprecedented joint investigation stretching from Seoul to Tokyo and beyond.

Meet the Detectives Leading the Chase

Son Suk Ku, known for his commanding presence in shows like D.P. and “My Liberation Notes,” plays Kang Chung Do — a role that continues his streak of gripping, morally complex Netflix leads.

Eita Nagayama, a respected name in Japanese television for dramas like “Unnatural” and “Nodame Cantabile,” takes on Inose, marking his first-ever Netflix Original series.

Rounding out the ensemble, Kim Shin Rok (fresh off “Hellbound” and “Queen of Tears”), Choi Sung Eun (“The Sound of Magic”), and veteran actor Jung Jae Young (“Partners for Justice”) add serious dramatic weight to the investigation.

When Can You Watch It?

Filming was originally slated to begin in June 2025 but only officially kicked off in September that year — pushing the realistic release window to late 2026 or early 2027. No confirmed premiere date exists yet, so this is one to bookmark and revisit.

Given the genre-bending premise and stacked international cast, “Road” is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most ambitious K-drama thrillers yet.
