RC Lens striker Lois Openda joins RB Leipzig in club record deal worth €38 million

RB Leipzig have completed the signing of Belgian striker Lois Openda from Lens in Ligue 1. The forward will be making a move to the Bundesliga for a fee worth €38 million, with the deal fully agreed between the two clubs.

The forward made history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in Ligue 1 this past season. He was one of the main reasons why the club finished second in the table and qualified for the Champions League, punching well above their weight. In spite of signing for Lens only last summer, the player will be making the move to Leipzig to pursue an even bigger challenge.

He scored 21 goals and provided four assists in 38 Ligue 1 appearances this past season, capping off a remarkable individual and club season.

Lois Openda to sign for RB Leipzig permanently

The 23-year-old becomes yet another striker to join RB Leipzig, after the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from their sister club, RB Salzburg. Both young forwards will be expected to replace Christopher Nkunku, who left for Chelsea this summer after a deal worth €60 million was agreed during the January transfer window.

Lois Openda has become the most expensive signing in the history of RB Leipzig, showing the conservative model that the club has used to achieve their success in Germany and Europe. The striker has agreed to a five-year contract until 2028, and is expected to be a great addition for the club.
