Ranbir Kapoor Begins Filming for New Sanjay Leela Bhansali Project in 2026

Ranbir Kapoor has officially kicked off filming for a highly anticipated project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This reunion is significant, coming nearly two decades after their first collaboration.

As of June 2026, production is in full swing for this untitled film under the banner of Bhansali Productions. While the industry buzzes with excitement, details about the release date, box office expectations, full cast list, and potential award-season placement are still [UNCONFIRMED].

The history between these giants of Indian cinema adds an intriguing element to this new venture. Ranbir made his Bollywood debut in Bhansali’s Saawariya, which premiered on November 9, 2007. That film struggled at the box office, earning around ₹21 crore net domestically. Fans are left wondering if this new film will prove to be a successful comeback for their partnership.

Since that debut, Ranbir has transformed into a major box-office attraction. He recently starred in the 2023 hit Animal, which brought in over ₹900 crore worldwide.

Meanwhile, Bhansali has been broadening his creative reach beyond traditional theatre. His latest project, the 8-episode web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, launched on Netflix on May 1, 2024, marking his successful entry into the OTT space.

By returning to feature films with a star like Kapoor, Bhansali is signaling a serious play for the theatrical market.

What’s next for this production is generating plenty of speculation among industry insiders. With filming just starting, the team is likely concentrating on establishing the visual style that’s become Bhansali’s trademark before diving into the extensive post-production work expected for such a project.

We’ll be following the production closely as the studio eventually reveals the supporting cast and official title. This reunion will be a test for both to see if they can replicate the success that Kapoor has achieved in recent years.
