Ramayana Trailer Breakdown: 5 Details You May Have Missed

1. Ravana Gets the Opening Frame, Not Ram

Most expected Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Ram to make the first appearance, but instead the trailer opens with Yash’s Raavan, making the demon king feel like a force of nature rather than just a villain.</cite> It’s a deliberate storytelling choice: before introducing the hero, the makers first establish the sheer scale of the evil he must overcome.

2. Ravana’s “Teen Lok Ka Swami” Declaration

The trailer opens with Ravana taking over the demi-gods to declare himself “teen lok ka swami,” teasing his grandeur and near-invincible status in Lanka. This framing sets Ravana up not just as a king, but as a cosmic-level threat that only a divine avatar could realistically challenge.

3. A Blindfolded Archery Reveal for Ram

King Dashrath, played by Arun Govil, introduces Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Rama practicing archery blindfolded, a subtle nod to Ram’s mastery and divine discipline before the story even reaches his exile.

4. Kaikeyi’s Demand and Lakshmana’s Fury

The trailer moves swiftly to Lara Dutta’s Kaikeyi demanding Rama be sent on a fourteen-year vanvas, or exile, followed by a scene of Lakshmana chopping off Shurpanakha’s nose. This spark ignites the war between Ravana and Rama.</cite> This pacing choice compresses decades of mythology into a tight emotional arc that keeps momentum building.

5. A Blink-and-Miss Vivek Oberoi Cameo

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Vivek Oberoi’s appearance in the trailer. However, his character wasn’t formally introduced, fueling speculation about which mythological figure he’ll portray once the full film releases.

The Bigger Picture: A Two-Part Cinematic Epic

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film adapts Valmiki’s ancient Sanskrit epic on a massive scale, produced by Prime Focus Studios along with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations. The project also features a strong ensemble, including Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari.

The film is designed as a two-part release, with Part 1 arriving during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in Diwali 2027, both shot for IMAX screens. This ambitious structure gives the storytellers room to breathe, likely explaining why the trailer moves so briskly through iconic moments—there’s an entire second film to explore the war and aftermath in Lanka.

The Score: A Global Musical Powerhouse

The music is composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Kumar Vishwas, pairing Hollywood’s most celebrated composer with India’s own musical legend. Early trailer reactions suggest the score plays a major role in elevating the epic’s emotional weight.
