Raja Shivaji Advance Booking Is on Fire — Riteish Deshmukh’s Epic Sells 20,000 Tickets Before It Even Releases

Maharashtra is buzzing, and the ticket counters are proof. Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji sold nearly 20,000 tickets in no time at the Marathi box office, suggesting a record start — with the movie still having three and a half days to go before its release.

That kind of pre-release energy is rare, and it signals something bigger than just a hit film — it signals a cultural moment.

If the epic saga continues to maintain the same pace, it can easily record phenomenal sales before its premiere.

Can It Challenge Maharashtra’s Box Office Records?

The bar is high, but not unreachable. The top three opening days in Maharashtra belong to Dhurandhar 2 (Rs. 22 crore), Pushpa 2 (Rs. 18 crore), and Chhaava (Rs. 17 crore). Raja Shivaji has the ambition — and the buzz — to take a swing at all three.

This is no ordinary film. The ensemble cast includes Sanjay Dutt, Genelia Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Vidya Balan, Bhagyashree, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Amol Gupte, with Salman Khan making a crucial guest appearance.

And Riteish hasn’t just acted — he also directed this biographical drama of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, making Raja Shivaji the biggest film from Marathi cinema to date.

Backed by Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios, it releases in Marathi, Hindi, and Telugu on Maharashtra Day, May 1st, 2026.
