Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus gives out 70+ Percent Yield Rate on TSMC’s 4nm Process Node

Qualcomm was initially rumoured to be rushing to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus to replace the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 effectively. Progress on the new SoC appears to be going well, with one source claiming that TSMC’s 4nm design has a current yield rate of more than 70%. Qualcomm’s fastest chipset should be available in no time.

Qualcomm was rumoured to be testing the waters with TSMC for mass production of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, citing Samsung’s low yield rate of 4nm wafers as the cause. Due to this short-term setback, customers will be dissatisfied with Qualcomm’s current efforts since fewer Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 shipments will be delivered to them. Sam claims on Twitter that TSMC’s 4nm current yield rate is more than 70%, making its production superior to Samsung’s, albeit he does not specify a percentage.

TSMC would finally offer Qualcomm 4nm shipments, which would have been problematic for the Taiwanese manufacturer given that its production facility will likely be overburdened with Apple 4nm chip shipments for various products due later this year. Qualcomm would receive access to timely Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus loads and a unique manufacturing process due to this advancement, which would likely result in increased performance and power efficiency.

When silicon is stressed, these two favourable characteristics may help to prevent thermal throttling. When it comes to when the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will be released, Sam proposes looking for it in Q2, 2022, which is a year earlier than the Snapdragon 888 Plus, which was announced in the second part of last year. Qualcomm appears to be eager to get rid of its low yield troubles as soon as possible, and we wouldn’t be surprised if TSMC were given a premium to do so.

A primary source said that the next Lenovo Halo flagship would include the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, among other monster hardware specifications, as evidence of Qualcomm working on a speedier chipset.
