Why Did Psych Leave Netflix?
The police detective comedy drama Psych, which headlined the USA Network lineup between 2006 and 2014, departed Netflix in all international territories after only a year on the service.
Netflix licensed all 120 episodes across its eight seasons in May 2024, with up to 26 countries including Latin America, the United Kingdom, India, most of Europe, Israel, Australia, and Canada all having licensed the title. But the three subsequent Psych movies weren’t included in the deal — a pain point for dedicated fans from the start.
The show had a modest showing throughout 2024. Season 1 pulled in 86.1 million hours watched, but views stepped off significantly in later seasons, with Season 8 drawing just 15.3 million hours — and in the Netflix Engagement Report for January to June 2024, season 1 ranked as only the 430th most watched TV show in that period.
As now confirmed by a removal notice in the Netflix app on mobile, TV, and desktop, the last day to watch the series was April 30, with the removal scheduled for May 1st, 2025.
This isn’t a one-off situation — the same pattern happened with two other shows owned by Universal Television, such as CSI and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, both departing Netflix internationally after a single year. Short-term licensing deals for legacy titles appear to be a deliberate strategy for some studios.
In the United States, Netflix hasn’t had Psych since October 1st, 2016, and the series is currently streaming on Peacock (its default home) and Prime Video.
