Priyadarshan Exits Hera Pheri 3: “The Franchise Will Be Dead,” Says Director

The Hera Pheri franchise just hit its biggest roadblock yet. Filmmaker Priyadarshan has confirmed his exit from Hera Pheri 3, the long-awaited comedy starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, and he isn’t holding back on why.

What Happened wityh Priyadarshan?

According to Priyadarshan, producer Firoz Nadiadwala repeatedly clashed with him, at one point reportedly telling Akshay Kumar he could make the film but never with Priyadarshan attached. The director also says Nadiadwala criticized his editing work on the original 2000 Hera Pheri film. Beyond the personal friction, Priyadarshan pointed to a long-running rights dispute involving Seven Arts Films as a deeper obstacle threatening the project’s future entirely.

Priyadarshan : Key Details

Why This Matters

Priyadarshan didn’t mince words about the franchise’s trajectory, describing the first film as thriving, the sequel as struggling, and the long-gestating third part as effectively finished before it even begins. He noted he was initially excited about the project and believed he could make it one of the country’s biggest franchises, with all three lead actors reportedly enthusiastic when he first pitched the story.

The Silver Lining

Despite the fallout, Priyadarshan’s professional relationship with Akshay Kumar remains intact. The two are set to reunite for their ninth collaboration, an as-yet-untitled family entertainer produced by Tips Films, following their upcoming eighth film together, Bhooth Bangla, alongside Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi.
