Master Pyroar in Pokemon Legends Z-A: Ultimate Moveset & Nature Guide

Pyroar roars back into action in Pokemon Legends Z-A, bringing its unique Fire/Normal typing and devastating special attacks to Lumiose City. As the only Pokemon with this dual-type combination, this majestic lion deserves a spot on your team—especially now with Mega Evolution capabilities. Let’s unlock Pyroar’s full potential with the perfect moveset and nature.

Pokemon Legends: Pyroar’s Battle Stats Breakdown

Mega Pyroar receives significant boosts to Special Attack and Speed, cementing its role as a devastating special sweeper.

The Perfect Pyroar Moveset

Core Four Moves

1. Flamethrower (learned at level 32)
2. Hyper Voice (learned at level 42)
3. Earth Power (learned at level 28)
4. Overheat (learned upon evolution)

This moveset provides incredible type coverage without requiring a single TM. Flamethrower serves as your reliable STAB Fire attack, while Hyper Voice delivers consistent Normal-type damage. Earth Power covers Rock, Fire, and Steel-type threats that resist your primary attacks, and Overheat acts as your nuclear option for massive burst damage.

According to Serebii’s Pokemon Legends Z-A mechanics guide, this combination maximizes Pyroar’s special attacking prowess while maintaining excellent versatility.

Optimal Nature Selection

Best Nature Options

Modest Nature (↑ Special Attack, ↓ Attack)

• Maximizes damage output
• Perfect for Mega Pyroar’s offensive role
• Find Modest Mints at flower stalls in Sushi High Roller, Wild Zone 3, and Jaune Plaza

Timid Nature (↑ Speed, ↓ Attack)

• Guarantees outspeeding opponents
• Ideal for competitive battles
• Purchase Timid Mints at flower stalls in Restaurant Le Nah

Since Pyroar’s physical Attack stat sits at a mediocre 68, dropping it further causes zero harm to your battle strategy.

Unlocking Mega Pyroar

To access Mega Pyroar’s enhanced stats, you’ll need Pyroarite. Acquire this Mega Stone by exchanging 240 Mega Shards at the Quasartico Inc. headquarters in Lumiose City. The significant Special Attack boost from 109 to 159 transforms Pyroar into an absolute powerhouse.

Battle Strategy Tips

Pyroar excels as a hit-and-run special attacker. Lead with Flamethrower or Hyper Voice for consistent damage, save Overheat for crucial knockouts (despite the Special Attack drop), and switch to Earth Power when facing Rock or Fire types.

The Fire/Normal typing provides STAB on two frequently resisted types, making Pyroar surprisingly difficult to wall. Its Ghost immunity also grants valuable defensive utility against Ghost-type sweepers.

Level-Up Timeline

• Evolution: Learn Overheat immediately
• Level 28: Earth Power unlocked
• Level 32: Flamethrower available
• Level 42: Hyper Voice mastered

This convenient learning curve means your Pyroar reaches full potential naturally through leveling—no TM hunting required.

Why Pyroar Dominates

With 109 base Special Attack and 106 Speed, Pyroar outpaces most opponents while dealing substantial damage. The addition of Mega Evolution elevates these stats to elite levels (159 Special Attack / 126 Speed), making it competitive throughout your entire Legends Z-A journey.

Its unique typing also provides strategic advantages. Normal-type moves hit everything except Rock, Steel, and Ghost types neutrally, while Fire coverage handles Steel threats. Earth Power rounds out the coverage by dealing with Rock and Fire resistances.
