VisionQuest Review: Is Marvel’s WandaVision Spinoff

Marvel is finally going back inside Vision’s head, and it’s as strange and emotional as you’d hope. VisionQuest lands on Disney+ this week, and early reviews suggest it carries the mind-bending spirit of WandaVision into fresh territory.

What Is the Story About?

The series reintroduces White Vision living an ordinary life, far from his heroic past. Inside, things are far messier. His body houses a consortium of AI constructions, each with its own role:

What Works?

The Performances

Paul Bettany anchors the series as a Vision who feels distant from his former self. He’s afraid to become a father to Tommy because doing so means facing the trauma he inherited, and Bettany gives that struggle real layers.

James Spader is equally strong as Ultron. For much of the series he plays a sarcastic “human father” figure trapped in Vision’s mind, which adds ambiguity and menace to every dig. The reviewer says that by the end he’s back in a more familiar role, and that he still delivers one of the MCU’s most intimidating villains.

T’Nia Miller’s Jocasta is praised as a fantastic addition. She plays the character with an intense, pained complexity that matches Spader’s Ultron.

The Emotional Core

The best moments often happen in the real world, where Vision faces Tommy. Mollica plays a young man confused by clashing layers of memory who wants to understand himself and have a father. Those father-and-son scenes carry the series.
