iQOO India CEO Nipun Marya has officially announced that Origin OS 6, built on the latest Android 16, will soon be launched in India for iQOO smartphones, marking the end of FunTouch OS era. This strategic shift aligns India with China, where Vivo and iQOO devices have always shipped with Origin OS.

Why the Switch Matters
Currently, most Vivo and iQOO smartphones in India use Funtouch OS 15, which is based on Android 15, creating inconsistency with global Vivo operations. The transition to Origin OS 6 brings several advantages: unified global experience, earlier Android updates, and enhanced AI capabilities integrated from ground up.
The official FunTouch OS X page has been renamed to Origin OS, suggesting that the UI would soon replace FunTouch OS in the Indian market, indicating this isn’t just speculation but confirmed strategic direction.
Launch Timeline and Device Rollout
The upcoming Vivo X300 Series is expected to be the first phones to run the Android 16-based Origin OS 6, likely launching alongside the global debut. Vivo has confirmed that the Android 16-based Origin OS 6 will debut in China on October 10, with India following shortly after.
The iQOO 15 series and Vivo X300 phones will spearhead this transition, though it remains unclear whether existing devices will receive Origin OS 6 updates or continue with FunTouch OS support.
User Experience Improvements
Origin OS 6 promises more intuitive navigation, improved system animations, and deeper integration with Vivo’s ecosystem services. The Android 16 foundation brings enhanced privacy controls, better performance optimization, and new AI-powered features unavailable in current FunTouch OS builds.
For Android enthusiasts tracking custom UI developments, this represents significant evolution in how Chinese brands approach international markets—moving toward unified experiences rather than region-specific customizations.
Market Impact
This shift positions Vivo and iQOO competitively against Samsung’s One UI and Xiaomi’s HyperOS, offering users more consistent experiences across price segments. The early Android 16 adoption also demonstrates commitment to staying current with Google’s latest platform developments.
The transition signals confidence in Origin OS’s maturity and user acceptance, potentially influencing other Chinese brands’ international UI strategies.
