A rapid rise, an even faster fall. Cha Ga Won, the entertainment mogul behind One Hundred Label, has now been arrested on massive fraud charges — closing a chapter that’s left the K-pop industry stunned.
Cha Ga Won : Arrest
Cha Ga-won, CEO of One Hundred Label, was detained on fraud charges involving some 30 billion won ($21 million), leaving the K-pop industry scrambling to understand how she built a multilabel entertainment empire in record time — and lost it just as quickly. Judge Boo Dong-sik of the Seoul Central District Court issued the arrest warrant on August 3, citing “concerns of evidence destruction” after a pre-detention interrogation.

What She’s Accused Of

Cha is accused of proposing a business using the intellectual property of artists under her agency to Nomus Co., signing a contract, and receiving 24.2 billion won in advance payments, but failing to fulfill it. Separately, she is also accused of agreeing with an acquaintance to sign a lease contract on each other’s properties, receiving a deposit of 5.4 billion won, but failing to fulfill her contractual duties.
A Warrant Rejected Twice Before Finally Sticking
This wasn’t a quick process.Police had applied for an arrest warrant against Cha twice before, in June, but the Prosecution Service rejected both requests, asking for additional investigation to supplement the criminal facts. After conducting supplementary investigations including account tracing, police filed a third detention warrant on July 22, which prosecutors finally forwarded to the court.
Her Defense
Cha’s legal team has consistently pushed back against the allegations. Her attorney stated the case “does not constitute fraud either factually or legally” and that there is “significant room for dispute,” vowing to demonstrate to the court that there are no grounds for detention.Cha’s side has also argued the suspicion is part of a hostile mergers and acquisitions operation targeting One Hundred Label</cite>.
The Bigger Fallout
The label’s troubles extend well beyond this case. Artists including Lee Mujin, VIVIZ, and THE BOYZ have all sought contract termination from agencies under the One Hundred umbrella amid the company’s mounting legal troubles.
Cha’s ties to the entertainment world trace back to 2023, when Exo’s Baekhyun established his own company after a dispute with SM Entertainment, a venture that eventually grew into the label now known as One Hundred. The saga highlights the volatility that can surround independent labels within K-pop’s fast-expanding industry.
