First BTS, now Stray Kids. Two of K-pop’s biggest groups will not be in the running at the 69th Grammy Awards, and fans are asking why.
What Happened in K-Pop?
Sports Kyunghyang reported on October 2 that Stray Kids submitted no work before the August 21 deadline. A JYP Entertainment representative then confirmed it: the group did not submit anything to the Grammys. Under Grammy rules, music that isn’t formally submitted can’t be nominated or appear on the voting ballot.

The Missing Reason
JYP did not explain the decision, and it did not say whether it was linked to the Recording Academy’s new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category. That silence matters. All eight Stray Kids members were invited to join the Recording Academy as voting members this year, so they could have taken part in the voting.
Why the New Category Is Controversial?
Some major K-pop acts see the category as a way of placing Asian and K-pop artists in a regional or language box, rather than letting them compete in mainstream fields like Song of the Year or Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The Academy has said it is going ahead with the category despite the criticism.
Where BTS Comes In?
After that decision, BTS started what the report calls a complete boycott of the 2027 Grammys. All seven members posted identical statements on Instagram withdrawing their music from consideration. Stray Kids’ choice follows the same pattern, but with an important difference: they have given no public explanation, so it would be unfair to call it a boycott.
What’s Next for Stray Kids?
The group is busy headlining the Run It World Tour, with stadium dates across North America, Latin America and Europe. Fans can expect their focus to stay on the road for now.
