OFFICIAL: Thomas Tuchel announced as new Chelsea Head Coach

Thomas Tuchel has officially been confirmed as the new head coach of Chelsea FC after weeks of speculation about the former PSG boss becoming the first German in charge of the dugout at Stamford Bridge to replace Frank Lampard.

As announced by the club, Tuchel has been signed on an 18-month long deal that will see him stay at the club till the end of the next season, and the club have the option of extending his contract if they’d like to.

Tuchel has already started overseeing Chelsea’s training sessions, as documented by the club’s Instagram page, and will take charge of the Blues for the first time in an official game today against Wolves at home.

Here is what the newly appointed head coach had to say to the club’s official website regarding his appointment:

‘I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.

‘We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football. I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing!’

Tuchel is now reunited with former players Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic, whom he managed at Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund respectively, in his stints with the former clubs. The German’s arrival is also thought to be a good sign for out-of-form stars Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, who have been struggling a lot in recent games.
