Official: Nuno Mendes Commits Future to PSG with A New Five-Year Contract Until 2030

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have secured the long-term future of their highly-rated left-back Nuno Mendes, as the Portuguese international has agreed to a new five-year contract with the club. The 22-year-old, who had been linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes, has now put an end to any transfer speculation by committing his future to the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, stating that Mendes had reached a verbal agreement in December and has now officially signed an extension. This news comes as a blow to Manchester United, who were heavily interested in acquiring his services under the guidance of manager Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United’s Failed Pursuit

The Red Devils were among the most persistent suitors for Mendes, with Amorim eager to reunite with his former Sporting Lisbon protégé at Old Trafford. The Portuguese tactician believed the dynamic full-back would be a perfect fit for his tactical setup, especially given his success in coaching Mendes during their time together in Portugal.

However, despite their interest, Manchester United were forced to reconsider their options once Mendes and PSG reached an agreement in December. The English club had been hoping the defender would reject an extension, creating an opportunity to lure him to the Premier League. Instead, they had to divert their attention to other targets in the transfer market.

Wage Increase and Status at PSG

Mendes’ contract extension comes with a significant financial boost. According to Romano, the left-back will now be among the top earners at PSG. His impressive performances since joining the club in 2021 have cemented his status as one of the most promising full-backs in world football.

His ability to balance defensive solidity with attacking contributions has made him an indispensable asset for PSG. This new deal reflects the club’s confidence in him as a key figure in their long-term plans. Mendes’ commitment ensures that the French giants will continue to benefit from his talents for years to come.

Manchester United’s Alternative Plans

With Mendes now off the market, Manchester United turned their attention to other left-back options. They swiftly moved to secure the signing of Lecce’s rising star Patrick Dorgu. The Red Devils agreed to a €30 million deal, with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses, for the 20-year-old Danish defender.

Dorgu has signed a contract running until 2030, with an option for an extra year. Although he is a different profile of player compared to Mendes, United are hopeful that he will develop into a key member of their squad under Amorim’s guidance.

PSG’s Defensive Stability

By tying Mendes down to a long-term deal, PSG have reinforced their defensive setup for the foreseeable future. The club continues to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level, and Mendes’ extension highlights their intent to retain top talent amid interest from European rivals.

With his future now secured, Mendes can fully focus on his performances on the pitch as PSG aim for domestic and European glory. His presence will be crucial in their pursuit of silverware, and the club’s faith in him signals their ambition to maintain dominance in Ligue 1 while challenging for the UEFA Champions League.
