Nothing Phone 4a vs OnePlus Nord 5: Which Should You Buy?

Two of the most interesting mid-range phones under ₹35,000 — and they couldn’t be more different in philosophy. The Nothing Phone (4a) is built around design identity, camera versatility, and a cleaner software experience. The OnePlus Nord 5 is about raw performance, battery endurance, and feature-rich OxygenOS. Here’s how they stack up head to head.

Full Specs Comparison

Display: Brighter vs Smoother

Both use 1.5K AMOLED panels, but they prioritise differently. The Nothing Phone (4a) peaks at a class-leading 4500 nits — genuinely useful in harsh outdoor sunlight. The Nord 5 counters with a 144Hz refresh rate versus the Phone (4a)’s 120Hz, which gamers will appreciate. The Phone (4a) also has 2160Hz PWM dimming for reduced eye strain during extended use. Day-to-day, the difference is minor — but if you spend a lot of time outdoors, the Phone (4a)’s brightness is a real advantage.

Performance: The Biggest Gap Between Them

This is where the Nord 5 pulls clearly ahead. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 delivers roughly 35% better CPU and 45% better GPU performance than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 in the Phone (4a). For gaming, multitasking, and sustained workloads, the Nord 5 is in a different performance tier — aided by its superior Cryo-velocity vapor chamber cooling.

If gaming is a priority, the Nord 5 is the answer.

Camera: More Versatile vs More Consistent

The Phone (4a) wins on versatility. A 50MP main + 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto + 8MP ultrawide gives you three usable focal lengths — the telephoto alone is a significant upgrade over anything OnePlus offers at this price. The Nord 5 sticks to a 50MP main and 8MP ultrawide with no telephoto option at all.

For portrait shots, zoom photography, and creative flexibility, the Phone (4a) camera system is meaningfully better. For pure computational consistency and video quality, the Nord 5 holds its own.

Battery & Charging: Nord 5 Dominates

The 6800mAh battery in the Nord 5 is simply enormous for a phone this slim. Paired with 80W fast charging, it refills faster and lasts longer than the Phone (4a)’s 5400mAh + 45W combination. The Nord 5 also includes a charger in the box; the Phone (4a) does not.

Software: Clean Aesthetics vs Feature Depth

Nothing OS is minimal, opinionated, and Glyph-driven — great if you want a near-stock Android experience with unique visual personality. OxygenOS is cleaner than Samsung’s One UI but far richer in features: dual apps, gaming modes, Always-on Display, deeper customisation. The Nord 5 also wins convincingly on update support — 4 years of Android updates vs 2 years for the Phone (4a).

Verdict: Which Should You Buy?

Buy the Nothing Phone (4a) if you want a more versatile triple camera system, the brightest display in the segment, the Glyph Interface, and a clean design-first software experience.

Buy the OnePlus Nord 5 if you prioritise raw performance, a much larger battery, faster charging, a more feature-rich OS, and significantly longer software support.
