Nothing is done with the Glyph Matrix experiment — at least for the A-series. The company has officially teased the Nothing Phone 4a’s new Glyph Bar: 9 individually controllable mini-LEDs, 40% brighter than the Phone (3a), and designed to be less distracting than every previous Glyph version. Launch is confirmed for March 5, 2026 at 10:30 AM GMT.

Nothing Phone 4a vs 4a Pro: Specs, Glyph & Price Compared

CEO Carl Pei has called this a “flagship-level” experience — notably, Nothing is skipping the Phone 4 entirely in 2026, making the 4a series the brand’s main event this year.

Nothing’s Glyph has changed shape with every generation: 5 strips on Phone (1), 11 strips on Phone (2), 3 strips on the (3a) series, and a full Glyph Matrix pixel ring on the Phone (3). The (4a) steps back from the Matrix concept with a cleaner bar arrangement — 6 square diffusers driven by 9 individually addressable mini-LEDs.

The practical difference: each LED can be independently controlled for per-app notifications, charging status, countdown timers, volume levels, and third-party developer integrations like ride-hailing progress or delivery tracking. The 40% brightness boost addresses the original Glyph’s biggest weakness — poor outdoor visibility — while the new diffusion optics reduce the bleed and hotspots that made early Glyphs uncomfortably bright in dark rooms.

The €409 starting price is a €60 jump over the Phone (3a) — something Nothing will need to justify with the full spec reveal on launch day.
