Nobody Saw Obsession Coming — The Hollywood Horror Thriller That’s Quietly Winning Over India!

Sometimes the most surprising success stories don’t come with a massive marketing budget or A-list names plastered across every billboard. Obsession, the Hollywood indie horror thriller directed by Curry Barker and starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, is doing exactly that. After an already impressive Day 1 collection of Rs 2 crore (including previews), the film stepped it up on Day 2 with Rs 2.25 crore, bringing its two-day India total to a very promising Rs 4.25 crore gross.

That’s real momentum. And with Sunday still to come, the opening weekend is on track to close somewhere between Rs 6 to 7 crore — a genuinely strong number for a limited-budget foreign horror release in the Indian market.

Obsession Day-Wise Box Office Collections — Obsession (India)

Why Obsession Is Turning Heads

What makes this collection particularly noteworthy is the context. Obsession is mounted on a limited budget and carries no Bollywood star power — yet it walked into Indian multiplexes and held its own from Day 1. The positive word of mouth following its release is the real engine here, and that’s historically the kind of fuel that keeps a horror film running well beyond its opening weekend.

Back in its home market, the film has already become one of the most profitable ventures of 2026 at the US box office — a feat that’s rare for indie horror, a genre known for its hits-and-misses. As Wikipedia’s overview of horror films explains, the genre thrives on audience experience and communal viewing — something Indian multiplexes are perfectly built for.

The film features a full ensemble including Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter, and Haley Fitzgerald, with music by Rock Burwell and cinematography by Taylor Clemons. Written, edited, and directed entirely by Curry Barker, it’s a genuine indie passion project — and that authenticity is clearly resonating.

What to Watch Next

If Obsession holds strong through Sunday and legs out into the weekdays, it has a real shot at becoming a quiet surprise hit in India — the kind of word-of-mouth phenomenon that nobody predicted on release day. The horror genre has found a hungry audience in Indian cinemas post-pandemic, and Obsession looks perfectly placed to capitalise on that appetite.
