Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Soar Past 10M in Record Time

Nintendo‘s latest console is crushing it. The Switch 2 has sold 10.36 million units as of September 30, significantly outpacing the original Switch which took about ten months to sell a similar amount. That’s more than double the pace of its predecessor.

Breaking Records Right Out the Gate

Launched in June, the console exceeded expectations so dramatically that Nintendo raised its forecast from 15 million to 19 million units for the year. The gaming giant is riding high on this momentum heading into the holidays.

Sales Performance at a Glance

Mario Kart World dominated sales with 9.57 million units, while Donkey Kong Bananza moved 3.49 million copies. The Mario Kart title boasts a stunning 92% attach rate, largely thanks to bundles.

What makes this launch truly historic? The Switch 2 is officially the fastest-selling console of all time, beating even Sony’s PlayStation 5 which took eight months to reach 10 million. This happened despite ongoing concerns about U.S. tariffs affecting the gaming industry.

The original Switch isn’t dead yet—it sold 1.89 million units during the same period, though that represents a 60% year-on-year decline. Backward compatibility keeps software sales strong at 125 million projected units.

With Nintendo’s official numbers confirming this explosive growth, the Switch 2 looks set to dominate 2026. For more gaming insights, check out our latest Nintendo coverage.
