What Is Spider-Noir About?

Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly / The Spider — an older, grizzled version of Spider-Man who is a down-on-his-luck private investigator from an alternate world set in 1930s New York City. He returns to being the Spider after stepping away from the role years prior because of a personal tragedy. Wikipedia

The series is inspired by the Spider-Man Noir comic books and is not connected to the Sony animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, despite Cage having voiced the character there. The trailer shows Cage swinging through the city, jumping from cars, and beating up crooks in a bar.

Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller also gave a fascinating insight into Cage’s approach: Lord revealed Cage had the idea to play the character as “a spider pretending to be a person,” with Miller adding that Ben feels “more spider than person” and has to act human in public while being his true self in private. comicbookmovie
