A new character poster just gave Lanterns fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for — a familiar face from the wider DCU stepping into HBO Max’s grounded space-cop thriller. Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner has officially been spotlighted in fresh Lanterns artwork, and his growing presence signals just how interconnected James Gunn’s DC Universe is becoming.

A Character Making His Third DCU Lanterns Appearance

Guy Gardner isn’t new to the DCU — he first appeared in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman film, then popped up in Season 2 of Peacemaker. This marks only his second official poster despite showing up across three separate DCU projects, underlining how connected these seemingly standalone stories really are.

Guy Gardner’s DCU Journey So Far

Project	Role/Appearance	Release
Superman (2025)	Full introduction, first DCU poster	2025
Peacemaker Season 2	Brief appearance, interviews Peacemaker	2026
Lanterns	Central role, debuts Episode 6	Airing now, HBO Max
Man of Tomorrow	Returning role	July 9, 2027

A Tonal Shift Worth Noticing

What makes this new poster interesting isn’t just Gardner’s return — it’s the mood. His Superman poster leaned into bright blues and reds, matching that film’s hopeful, symbolic tone. The new Lanterns artwork strips that away entirely, placing him against a dark green backdrop that mirrors the show’s grounded, mystery-driven atmosphere set in Nebraska. It’s a clear visual signal of how differently DCU projects are being styled depending on their story.

Why His Role Matters for the Bigger Mystery

Unlike his brief Peacemaker cameo, Gardner is expected to play a far more substantial role in Lanterns. Preview footage for Episode 6 shows him visiting John Stewart in a prison cell — a moment tied directly to the show’s central question: who killed Hal Jordan, and where is his ring? Given that Hal Jordan was previously established as Earth’s Green Lantern, Gardner’s appearance could finally explain how he ends up wielding a ring of his own.

Is This a Sign of More DCU Crossovers?

James Gunn has already confirmed Lanterns connects to the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, which introduced the prison planet Salvation. According to Gunn, the connections run deeper than they appear on the surface. That opens the door for more familiar DCU faces — potentially another Justice Gang member, given the show already snuck in a nod to Batman villain Black Mask in Episode 3. With John Stewart confirmed to appear in Man of Tomorrow, there’s also a strong chance the season builds toward explaining that transition before it wraps.

This kind of interconnected planning across films and TV shows mirrors how larger media franchises, similar to the broader concept of a shared universe in fiction, use recurring characters to link otherwise separate stories into one cohesive continuity.
