The WONDERfools: Drama Overview

What Is The WONDERfools About?

The WONDERfools is a superpower comic action series set in 1999 — a time when apocalyptic beliefs were rampant — that follows a group of neighbourhood misfits who unexpectedly gain superpowers and must fight against villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City.

The Y2K backdrop is a masterstroke of setting. The world genuinely believed it might end in 1999 — and into that paranoid, pre-millennium chaos drop four ordinary people suddenly gifted with extraordinary, deeply inconvenient abilities they never asked for.

Meet the Four Misfits — And Their Hilariously Chaotic Powers

Eun Chae Ni (Park Eun Bin) is seen standing bewildered on a snowy mountain amidst fully equipped hikers — capturing the exact moment her teleportation powers are suddenly and involuntarily triggered. She is also seen flying through the air, embroiled in unexpected incidents due to powers she acquired without even knowing why.

Lee Un Jeong (Cha Eun Woo) is shown waking up drenched in sweat, building curiosity about the secret behind this seemingly ordinary civil servant. Son Gyeong Hun (Choi Dae Hoon) is seen clinging to the ceiling with sheer terror — at a complete loss due to his bizarre sticky ability. Meanwhile, Kang Ro Bin (Im Seong Jae), nicknamed the “Haeseong City Pushover,” throws a punch that looks clumsy and uncoordinated, building laughs and anticipation for how this timid man will eventually harness a super strength that completely contradicts his personality.

The Villain Side — The Wunderkinder Project

Ha Won Do (Son Hyun Joo), the chief director of the superpower research experiment called the Wunderkinder Project, is seen inspecting an underground laboratory alongside his trio of loyal supporters. Curiosity is mounting as to why Ha Won Do has come to Haeseong City and what secret plans he and his team are preparing.

And then there’s the scene-stealing wildcard: Kim Jeon Bok (Kim Hae Sook) — Chae Ni’s grandmother — is seen counting stacks of cash, revealed to have once been known as “King Jeon Bok,” a formidable player in the Myeongdong private lending world. She will risk anything to protect her granddaughter. An ex-loan shark grandmother protecting her teleporting granddaughter? Iconic.
