What’s the Show Actually About?

The series begins in the 1930s, when Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children first put themselves on the nation’s radar. Season one charts their improbable ascent, focusing on rebellious second son Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden-boy older brother.

Think of it as America’s answer to The Crown — tracing a powerful family’s private turmoils, rivalries, and tragedies as they shape history in plain sight. The Kennedy family is one of the most documented and debated dynasties in modern politics, making this source material both rich and deeply compelling.

A Creative Team That Demands Your Attention

The series is helmed by Thomas Vinterberg, the acclaimed Danish director behind Another Round, and written by Sam Shaw, with Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Killers of the Flower Moon) on board as executive producer. The original book’s author, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Fredrik Logevall, is also producing. whats-on-netflix

That’s a rare alignment of literary credibility, directorial vision, and Hollywood pedigree all in one room.

The scope here is genuinely cinematic — and eight episodes gives this saga the room it needs to breathe.
