Netflix’s Grown Ups Has Wrapped Filming — And It Looks Like Pure Irish Gold

If you’re a fan of messy family dynamics, emotionally rich storytelling, and an ensemble cast that reads like a wish list — Grown Ups on Netflix is about to become your next obsession. Based on Marian Keyes’ beloved 2020 bestselling novel and now fully wrapped after a six-month shoot across Dublin and Wicklow, this eight-episode drama has all the ingredients of something genuinely special.

Grown Ups Everything You Need to Know — Overview

What’s Grown Ups Story?

Set in South County Dublin, Grown Ups follows the Casey clan — a loud, tight-knit Irish family held together by love, resentment, loyalty, money, and shared memory. When the family’s steady anchor — the “good son” — dies unexpectedly, a year-long emotional reckoning begins. Grief, old wounds, new mistakes, love found and lost — the Caseys must confront the exhausting, often ridiculous reality of adulthood. As the synopsis puts it perfectly, despite their age and responsibilities, the Caseys are far from grown up.

This is exactly the kind of layered, character-driven drama that the literary adaptation format was made for, and with See-Saw Films — the studio behind Slow Horses and Heartstopper — at the helm, the pedigree is undeniable.

Grown Ups: Star-Studded Cast

The ensemble is genuinely stacked with beloved Irish and British talent, including Sarah Greene (Bad Sisters) as Jessie, Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy) as Liam, Aisling Bea (This Way Up) as Cara, Barry Ward (Bad Sisters) as Johnny, Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty) as Canice, and Sinéad Cusack as Rose. Newcomer James Agnew and rising star Katelyn Rose Downey round out a cast that’s as exciting as it is deep.

Aisling Bea, upon wrap, described the experience effusively — calling the filming locations stunning, the cast mix of “newcomers, old comers, and mid-summers” remarkable, and expressing just how lucky she felt to be part of it.

Author Marian Keyes herself described the journey as “a succession of dreams come true” — high praise from someone who knows these characters more intimately than anyone.
