Some stories are too wild for fiction, and Netflix’s newest French production proves it. Cameras are officially rolling on Projet K, a gripping historical thriller chronicling the real-life decade-long hunt for one of history’s most notorious war criminals — and the cast alone is reason enough to get excited.

If true-crime-meets-history is your genre of choice, this one belongs right next to the international thrillers you’ll find on TechnoSports’ entertainment page.

What Is Projet K Really About?

The “K” stands for Klaus Barbie — the Gestapo chief in Lyon known as the “Butcher of Lyon,” whose crimes against humanity made him one of the most infamous Nazi officers of the era, evading capture for decades before eventually being tried in France. This film, however, isn’t told from his perspective. It centers on Beate and Serge Klarsfeld — a German woman and a French Jewish man whose unlikely love story became the engine behind a relentless, decade-long pursuit of justice against Barbie, fighting every institution that tried to stop them. Directed by actor-filmmaker Yvan Attal, who’s also co-writing the script with Laurent Turner, this marks his ninth film — and one of his most personal and politically charged yet.

Meet the Cast Bringing This Story to Life

This isn’t your average French production — it’s stacked with international star power.

Diane Kruger takes on the role of Beate Klarsfeld, bringing her Cannes Best Actress pedigree and a filmography spanning Inglourious Basterds to The Shrouds. Dany Boon, already a Netflix regular thanks to Stuck Together and Murder Mystery 2, plays Serge Klarsfeld, the historian and lawyer whose evidence-gathering helped bring Barbie to justice. And in a genuinely chilling casting choice, Tim Roth — known for Reservoir Dogs and Peaky Blinders — steps into the role of Klaus Barbie himself.

Where and When Is It Filming?

Production kicked off in downtown Lyon, the very city where Barbie once ran Gestapo operations, with additional sequences planned around Paris, Belgium, and Bolivia to trace the Klarsfelds’ real-world pursuit. The film is being produced through Attal’s own Films Sous Influence alongside NAC Films.

When Can You Watch It?

No official release date yet, but industry estimates point to late 2027 or early 2028 on Netflix — so hearties of historical dramas have a bit of a wait ahead. For more upcoming Netflix projects and production updates, keep an eye on TechnoSports’ streaming coverage.

Why This Story Still Matters

What makes Projet K stand out isn’t just the star power — it’s the weight of the true story behind it. The Klarsfelds’ fight against institutional resistance to bring a war criminal to justice is a reminder that some of the most gripping thrillers are the ones that actually happened.
