Netflix Just Handed You the Most Criminally Underrated Comedy of the ’80s — and It’s Free With Your Subscription

If you’ve ever stared at Netflix’s endless scroll wondering what hidden gem you’ve been missing, the answer just arrived. All three seasons of Black Monday — the gloriously chaotic, cocaine-soaked Wall Street comedy from Showtime — are landing on Netflix US on April 13, 2026. And if you slept on it during its original cable run, consider this your second chance.

What Is Black Monday?

Black Monday is a period comedy series set around October 19, 1987 — the real-life date of the worst stock market crash in Wall Street history. Created by David Caspe and Jordan Cahan, the show asks one brilliantly absurd premise: what if a ragtag gang of underdog traders were responsible for crashing the entire global financial system? What follows is three seasons of fast-paced, R-rated comedy gold, co-produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Television — whose strong Netflix pipeline made this acquisition almost inevitable.

Netflix ‘s Show- Everything You Need to Know

Why You Should Watch It

Don Cheadle leads the ensemble as Maurice Monroe, earning multiple Emmy nominations in the process. He’s backed by a cast that includes Regina Hall, Andrew Rannells, Paul Scheer, Casey Wilson, Ken Marino, and Yassir Lester — all comedic talents at the very top of their game.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg serve as executive producers and directed the pilot, which immediately signals the tone: sharp, irreverent, and gleefully unhinged. While the show never became a mainstream juggernaut during its Showtime run, it has cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase — and with Netflix’s reach, it’s about to find the massive audience it always deserved.

For fans tracking the best new arrivals on streaming platforms, this is the April drop to prioritise. Cheadle’s other acclaimed Showtime series House of Lies was also recently added to Netflix US, making April a genuinely great month for his fans on the platform.

Whether you’re a lover of OTT content or a history buff curious about the real story behind 1987’s financial meltdown, Black Monday delivers entertainment and edge in equal measure.
