After weeks of fan rage, viral memes, and a boycott campaign that somehow dragged in Axe Body Spray and KFC, Netflix has finally answered the call. From “Netflix Jail” to Weekly Episodes — What Happened?

When Steel Ball Run 1st Stage dropped on Netflix, fans were ecstatic. David Production’s adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s celebrated manga was universally praised as gorgeous and faithful. But joy turned to fury almost instantly when viewers discovered there was no second episode queued up the following week — triggering memories of Stone Ocean‘s infamous batch-release strategy that left fans waiting months at a time.

The disappointment sparked a wildly aggressive online campaign. Fans review-bombed the platform and flooded Netflix’s social media replies with a terrifying, red-eyed “anti-piracy” edit of Johnny Joestar. The movement grew so large that Axe Body Spray posted a faux “hostage video” on Instagram demanding the release of episode two, and even Anthony Prezman, the official French translator for the Steel Ball Run manga, publicly urged Netflix on X to adopt a weekly format so the story wouldn’t lose its momentum.

Netflix Breaks Silence — Here’s the Official Statement

The official @NetflixAnime account finally responded, and the statement was everything fans needed to hear:

“The series is currently in production and will be available for everyone to enjoy. We are planning a split‑cour release across the entire run of episodes. The next cour (2nd STAGE) will begin streaming in Fall 2026 on Netflix, with one new episode released each week. This release schedule is part of our original plan and reflects the wishes of the production committee.” whats-on-netflix

Whether the weekly format was always planned or the enormous fan backlash forced the change, the result is exactly what the community demanded. Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli will ride again — one episode at a time, the way it was meant to be experienced.
