Netflix Officially Unveils FIFA World Cup – Launch Edition: The Football Game the World Has Been Waiting For

Imagine watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Netflix — and then instantly switching to play it. That’s no longer a dream. Netflix has just made it a reality, and football gaming will never be the same again.

FIFA Is Back — Just Not Where You Expected

After FIFA’s landmark split from EA Sports following FIFA 23, football fans were left wondering: where does the world’s most iconic sports brand go next? The answer arrived with Netflix officially revealing its highly anticipated football title — FIFA World Cup – Launch Edition — confirmed to launch in June 2026, jointly developed by Netflix, Delphi Interactive, and FIFA.

Developed by Delphi Interactive, the title is described as a “clean break” from traditional console games, focusing on being a fast, approachable, and free-to-play experience for all Netflix subscribers.

Play It on Your TV With Just Your Phone

Millions of people already watch Netflix on their TVs, and now they can play games there too — with the new FIFA game joining a suite of titles that Netflix members can find right alongside their favourite shows and movies, using their phones as a controller. No console. No extra purchase. Just Netflix.

The Bosses Have Spoken

The excitement at the top is real. Netflix President of Games Alain Tascan said the FIFA World Cup is going to be the cultural event of 2026, and they want to bring football back to its roots — something everyone can play with just the touch of a button.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino called it a major milestone in FIFA’s commitment to innovation in the football gaming space, aspiring to reach billions of football fans of all ages everywhere in the world and redefining the pure notion of simulation games.

Why This Is a Big Deal

The announcement generated major excitement among football and gaming fans worldwide. Initially expected to remain exclusive to Netflix Games on mobile, the developers reconsidered their platform plans due to strong demand from the gaming community. That’s community power at work.
