The cast of Korea’s most anticipated historical action film just got a formidable new addition. Park Hae Joon has joined “Nambeol,” stepping into the role of the film’s chief antagonist alongside an already stacked ensemble led by Lee Byung Hun.

Set in the early Joseon dynasty, “Nambeol” is a hard-boiled martial arts action film following nine warriors of varying skills and social ranks. Their mission: travel to Tsushima Island to rescue captives abducted by Japanese pirates. It’s a premise built for sweeping action, moral complexity, and high-stakes rescue drama.

The Villain Fans Didn’t See Coming

Behind The Camera
“Nambeol” marks the directorial debut of Lee Mo Gae, a celebrated cinematographer whose past work includes “12.12: The Day,” “Exhuma,” and “Emergency Declaration.” With that visual pedigree behind the lens, expectations for the film’s look and scale are already sky-high. The film is currently in pre-production, with filming set to begin in the second half of 2026.
