Call of Duty betas have always meant one thing: multiplayer, and only multiplayer. Modern Warfare 4 just tore up that rulebook. For the first time in franchise history, its open beta hands players a real slice of the single-player campaign — and Switch 2 owners get to join the party too.
What’s New in the Beta
Activision and Infinity Ward confirmed the open beta runs August 28 to September 1, 2026, open to everyone on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, no pre-order needed. The headline feature is “Entrenched,” a playable campaign mission set on a snow-covered battlefield on the Korean Peninsula, following South Korean marines and an embedded American soldier during a fictional North Korean invasion.
Pre-order customers already got early access from August 21–25, and Entrenched carries over into the open weekend too — so nobody misses the story preview.

Why This Matters
