Bangladesh’s star fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has finally broken his silence following a controversy that’s rocked the cricket world. In an exclusive statement to BDCrictime, the left-arm pacer addressed his sudden release from Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2026, a decision that’s triggered diplomatic tensions and broadcast bans.

Mustafizur Rahman Story Overview

Mustafizur’s Dignified Response

When asked about his feelings on being dropped by the three-time IPL champions, Rahman showed remarkable composure. Speaking candidly, he acknowledged the reality of professional cricket where teams can make difficult decisions. The Bangladesh Cricket Board swiftly responded by withdrawing the No Objection Certificate, effectively ending any possibility of his IPL participation.

What Led to This Unprecedented Move?

The BCCI directed KKR to release the Bangladesh pacer following widespread outrage across parts of India. The decision came amid rising diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh, making Rahman an unfortunate casualty of geopolitics intersecting with sport. This marked one of the first times in IPL history where a player’s contract was terminated due to external political factors.

KKR’s Official Statement

Kolkata Knight Riders released a statement confirming they followed BCCI directives: “BCCI/IPL as the regulator has instructed it to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad ahead of the upcoming season. The franchise will be allowed a replacement player in line with IPL regulations.”

The Domino Effect

Rahman’s release has created waves beyond just cricket contracts. Bangladesh has formally requested the ICC to relocate their T20 World Cup 2026 matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns. The controversy has also affected broadcast rights, with Bangladesh banning IPL telecasts alongside Pakistan.
