Good news for crime-drama fans: cameras on Dept. Q season 2 stopped rolling on October 24, 2026. The show is based on the novels of Jussi Adler-Olsen and was developed for Netflix by Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani. Season 1 spent six weeks in the Global Top 10, so a return was never in doubt.

A Case About Power and Privilege
This time Carl and his team dig into a crime buried among Scotland’s elite, a story about wealthy people who believe the law doesn’t apply to them. In the book, a decades-old double murder resurfaces after one suspect confessed, and the real question is who put the file on Carl’s desk.
Don’t expect a page-for-page copy, though. Frank has said he built the story around an idea at the novel’s core, with a strong focus on class. The unsolved Leith Park shooting from season 1 is also expected to keep haunting Carl.
Who’s Back and Who’s New?
Goode leads a returning team that includes Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Jamie Sives, Mark Bonnar and Kate Dickie. The headline newcomer is James Corden, playing an eccentric forensic psychologist in what’s billed as his first major serious drama role.
Other additions include Aisling Franciosi as Kimmie, Amy Brenneman, Greg Wise, Tony Curran and Ross Anderson. The notable absence is Kelly Macdonald, who couldn’t return because of a conflicting HBO commitment, though Frank hasn’t closed the door on her.
Bigger, Bolder Scotland
The production used well over 100 locations, up from about 60 in season 1. Crews were spotted in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Leith, including the Art Deco Bon Accord Baths. Executive producer Rob Bullock called the season “much more cinematic.”
When Will It Release?
Netflix hasn’t announced a date. Season 1 landed about 11 months after filming ended, and the same gap points to roughly September 2027. For more streaming news and release calendars, keep exploring Technosports.
