Every great character arc needs a spark, and for Jean Grey, that spark was her sister. Marvel Studios has just released its first HD photos of Sara Grey, played by Olivia Booth-Ford, who appears in flashbacks inside Jean’s mind. Fans were so focused on Sadie Sink’s Jean that Sara nearly slipped under the radar.

Who Is Sara Grey?
Sara is Jean’s older sister and a telepathic mutant like her. The film shows Sara protecting and caring for Jean, especially after their mother, Elaine, abandoned them when their telepathic powers appeared. With no one else to rely on, the sisters had only each other, which explains how close they were.
Why the Park Flashback Matters?
In the film, Jean uses her powers to jump between people’s minds, controlling them as she goes. The flashback reveals that Sara was the one who taught her how to jump, which makes this scene key to understanding Jean’s abilities.
The scene is also heartbreaking. Sara offers to buy ice cream from a nearby truck, but she’s tranquilised by Damage Control and detained. She jumps into Jean’s mind to lead her away and keep her safe until Damage Control, led by Bill Metzger, is gone.
Sara’s Tragic Fate
Sara later dies in Damage Control’s captivity. Jean confirms her sister is gone when she sees Sara’s scrunchie in the containment room, the same one seen in the flashback. That small detail gives Jean’s anger more emotional weight and helps justify her actions.
Comics vs. MCU
| Version | Details |
|---|---|
| MCU | A powerful telepathic mutant who dies in captivity |
| Comics (early) | Not a mutant |
| Comics (recent) | Resurrected by Jean and known as Beacon, who can activate dormant powers in others |
Her design stays close to the comics, but Marvel changed her backstory.
What’s Next?
It’s unclear if Sara will appear in another MCU project. She was most likely used to deepen Jean’s story. Jean herself is expected to be central to the X-Men team. Sadie Sink is set to return for the X-Men film on May 5, 2028, directed by Jake Schreier. Marvel hasn’t confirmed whether she’ll appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
