What Was Maharaja About?

If you haven’t watched the original, here’s a quick recap — though honestly, just go watch it on Netflix right now. Maharaja tells the story of a Chennai barber who reports a bizarre theft to the police: his steel dustbin named “Lakshmi” has been stolen. The police initially dismiss him as a nuisance. But they soon discover this strange complaint is actually a carefully crafted plan to track down three dangerous criminals who broke into his home and brutally attacked his daughter while he was away. The film is a gripping, layered revenge thriller with a gut-punch screenplay, and Vijay Sethupathi absolutely owns every frame of it.

What Did Vijay Sethupathi Say?

In a candid interaction with Galatta Plus, the Makkal Selvan confirmed the exciting news. He noted that the script is ready and he’s excited to sit down and hear it from the director — which means the creative process is very much alive and moving forward. Given how tightly written the first film was, a sequel with the same director-actor duo has enormous potential.
