MacBook Neo 8GB RAM Opens 60 Apps — And a Windows Laptop Shuts Down

Ever since Apple priced the MacBook Neo at $599 with just 8GB of unified memory, critics have been lining up to call it inadequate. YouTube channel Hardware Canucks decided to settle the debate in the most extreme way possible — by simultaneously opening 60 apps. The result? The MacBook Neo kept running. The Lenovo Legion laptop it was compared against powered off entirely.

MacBook Neo: Key Specs at a Glance

60 Apps, No Crash — How Did It Handle It?

Hardware Canucks opened up 60 apps on the MacBook Neo right out of the gate, and the machine failed to crash or power off as the Lenovo Legion did. The cursor showed no lag throughout. There was noticeable battery drain — expected at that load — but the system kept composure across the entire test, including subsequent video streaming. The secret weapon is macOS’s swap memory management, which intelligently moves data sitting idle in RAM out to the SSD to free up space for whatever the processor actually needs, then swaps it back in when needed.

Macworld pushed it further with a week-long stress test — editing 4K video in Adobe Premiere Pro using iPhone 17 Pro Max footage, managing up to 59 browser tabs, with no performance degradation or stuttering throughout.

Where 8GB Actually Hits Its Limits

The Neo isn’t invincible. It will hit a ceiling for things that stress all available cores simultaneously — video exports, compiling code, working with local AI models. Tom’s Hardware’s Cinebench 2026 run took over 14 minutes to complete, confirming this isn’t a machine for heavy sustained compute work. But for the audience it targets — students, writers, everyday users — the MacBook Neo lets you send emails, watch videos, do homework, write documents, and make spreadsheets without issue.

The takeaway is simple: 8GB in Apple silicon is not the same as 8GB in a Windows laptop. The unified memory architecture and macOS’s efficiency make a genuine difference that benchmarks alone don’t capture. Read our full analysis of Apple and MacBook news on TechnoSports.
