Maa Behen Review: Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri Deliver Netflix’s Most Entertaining Female-Led Thriller of 2026

Maa Behen is now streaming on Netflix. Madhuri Dixit shines in Suresh Triveni’s dark comedy about female rage, a dead body, and a mother who refuses to fit the mould.

It is 3 AM. There is a dead body in the living room. And Madhuri Dixit needs her daughters — right now.

That is the opening of Maa Behen, Netflix India’s boldest release of June 2026 — and if that pitch does not grab you, nothing will. Suresh Triveni’s dark comedy thriller arrives today, June 4, and it is the kind of film that reminds you why you love Indian streaming cinema when it is working at its best.

Maa Behen: Key Details at a Glance

What Is Maa Behen About?

In the dead of night, a howling mother phones her two daughters — the older one married, the younger an aspiring content creator — demanding they rush home to help her with an emergency. The body of a man is lying in a pool of blood in the other room, and she doesn’t know what to do.

Rekha (Madhuri Dixit) has spent years scandalising the residents of Aadarsh Nagar. A single mother who has, at various points, run a cybercafé, sold lingerie, and now works in a liquor shop, she has never quite fit the colony’s idea of respectable womanhood — known for her bold saree blouses, crimson lipstick, and refusal to conform.

When her daughters Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and Sushma (Dharna Durga) arrive, a chaotic, funny, and quietly devastating night begins.

Why the Performances Are Worth Your Evening

Madhuri Dixit is terrific as Rekha, delivering one of her most uninhibited performances in recent years — playing the character with humour, defiance, vulnerability, and warmth. It is a role that requires her to be larger than life while remaining emotionally grounded, and she achieves that balance beautifully.

Triptii Dimri gives Jaya a quiet complexity, while Dharna Durga is perfectly cast as the social-media-savvy Sushma, bringing both humour and emotional honesty. More importantly, the three actors share an easy, lived-in chemistry that makes the family dynamics feel authentic — whether they are arguing, conspiring, or confronting old wounds, they convince as women bound together by affection, resentment, and history.

What Holds It Back

Despite its strong idea, Maa Behen often feels uneven. The screenplay is overloaded with subplots, and the tone shifts between satire and drama without smooth transitions. The storytelling lacks tightness, which affects its overall impact.

Triveni gives us yet another unexciting but undoubtedly interesting film — fascinating and playful, but one that doesn’t quite rise to its potential and become greater than the sum of its parts.

The Bigger Picture

In Triveni’s film, the mother and daughters are no longer collateral in somebody else’s story — they become the story itself. In an industry where the phrase “maa behen” has too often been used as an insult, this film quietly reclaims it as a war cry.
