Who Was Kumud Rane?

Kumud was not associated with the film industry. She largely stayed away from the public eye. Reports suggest that Kumud shared a deep bond with the Khan family and was considered one of their closest family friends.

Unlike the high-profile Bollywood celebrities who normally capture headlines at Galaxy Apartments, Rane was a deeply private figure who operated entirely behind the scenes as an extended maternal anchor for the Khan family across generations.

Her last known public moment was a beautiful one. Kumud had turned 60 in February 2026 and hosted a large party for friends and family. In a clip from the celebration, she was seen warmly hugging Salman Khan right after cutting her birthday cake. Nobody could have known it would be her last.

Salman’s Grief — Raw and Unfiltered

Salman Khan attended Kumud Rane’s funeral on June 9, standing by the bereaved family during their difficult time. Several videos and photos from the crematorium surfaced on social media, showing the actor visibly emotional and struggling to hold back his tears as he paid tribute.

Dressed simply in a checked shirt and jeans, Salman kept a low profile as he arrived. He was seen standing quietly with folded hands, trying to remain composed during the difficult moment.

A visibly grief-stricken Salman broke down in tears, relying directly on his security team and family for physical support — the strong exterior wall dissolved completely. The entire Khan family contingent was present, with Salman appearing most devastated of all.

A Month of Devastating Loss

This loss does not stand alone. Fans tracking the star noted that he is currently navigating an unprecedented, devastating month of back-to-back personal tragedies — the passing of his close friend Sushil Kumar, 42 years earlier in May, and now Kumud Rane.

Millions of fans have taken to social media to send prayers — not to the superstar, but to the human being behind that famous name. The outpouring of love speaks to something simple and true: grief does not discriminate, and Salman Khan is grieving deeply today.
