Kagurabachi Chapter 89 delivers explosive revelations about the mysterious armored Hishaku sorcerer and the tragic fate of Ibuki Misaka, the original Cloud Gouger wielder. This chapter shifts focus from the ongoing Kamunabi battle to explore deep connections between past and present conflicts that shaped the series’ foundation.

Kagurabachi Major Revelations Breakdown

Ibuki Misaka: The Fallen Legend

The boy is none other than Ibuki Misaka, the ex-wielder of the Cloud Gouger, who made his name during the Seitei War alongside young Seiichi Samura. The chapter reveals how this legendary swordsman met his tragic end three years ago, at the same time as Kunishige Rokuhira’s assassination.

Character	Role	Fate
Ibuki Misaka	Original Cloud Gouger wielder	Killed by Hishaku sorcerer 3 years ago
Natsuki Misaka	Ibuki’s younger brother, Kamunabi Team Tougo captain	Currently alive, seeking revenge
Armored Hishaku Sorcerer	Ibuki’s killer	Real identity revealed, heading to Kamunabi HQ

The Armored Hishaku’s True Face

The chapter unveils the real mastermind behind the armored suit – a thin moustache, a sharp jawline, and a neat hairstyle. He appears slightly middle-aged, with a lean yet toned physique. More importantly, Azami discovers that the armored figure he recently defeated was merely a puppet controlled by sorcery.

The Misaka Brothers’ Tragic Story

The chapter explores the deep bond between the Misaka Brothers, who were once undefeated in their hometown. Whenever his brother beat someone on the right, Natsuki would deliver the same favor on the left. Their separation during the Seitei War marked the beginning of their divergent paths.

Key Timeline Events

Seitei War Era: Ibuki chosen as Cloud Gouger wielder, Natsuki excluded
Post-War Period: Ibuki abandoned swordsmanship, gained weight, lost his edge
Three Years Ago: Ibuki killed by Hishaku during honest one-on-one combat
Present: Natsuki maintains his sword skills, leads Kamunabi Team Tougo

The Armored Sorcerer’s Motivation

The real Hishaku sorcerer reveals his frustration with being judged solely on defeating a weakened Misaka. The Misaka he fought wasn’t the same sword master from the Seitei War; following the war, his fangs went dull. This admission adds tragic depth to Ibuki’s death while establishing the sorcerer’s hunger for worthy opponents.

Setup for Epic Confrontation

Chapter 89 masterfully sets up what promises to be an emotionally charged battle. Upon hearing about Uruha being alive and someone related to Misaka at Kamunabi HQ, the armored sorcerer goes into a frenzied state. He makes up his mind about heading to the Kamunabi HQ.

Meanwhile, Natsuki Misaka prepares for battle, embodying his brother’s philosophy that if someone shows even the slightest weakness, they will be eliminated. Unlike his brother, Natsuki never strayed from the path of swordsmanship.

Thematic Significance

This chapter explores themes of legacy, weakness, and redemption. Ibuki’s fall from grace serves as a cautionary tale about losing one’s edge, while Natsuki represents unwavering dedication to improvement. The contrast between the brothers highlights how different responses to trauma can shape destinies.

The revelation that the armored sorcerer used puppets also raises questions about authenticity in combat – a recurring theme in Kagurabachi’s exploration of true strength versus deception.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Was Ibuki Misaka really weaker when he died compared to during the Seitei War?

A: Yes, the chapter confirms that Ibuki had lost his edge after the war. He stopped wielding his blade completely and gained weight, making him a shadow of his former self when the Hishaku sorcerer confronted him. This explains why the sorcerer feels frustrated being judged solely on that victory, as it wasn’t against Ibuki at his peak strength.

Q: How does Natsuki Misaka compare to his deceased brother Ibuki?

A: While Ibuki was the more famous swordsman who wielded the Cloud Gouger during the Seitei War, Natsuki has maintained consistent training and never abandoned the path of swordsmanship. Unlike his brother who showed “weakness” by giving up after the war, Natsuki adhered to their philosophy of constant improvement, potentially making him stronger than Ibuki was at the time of his death.
