Joao Felix Joins AC Milan on Loan from Chelsea: A Fresh Start for the Portuguese Star

In a thrilling development for both clubs and fans alike, Chelsea’s Joao Felix is set to join AC Milan on a six-month loan deal. This move comes as a new chapter in Felix’s career, one that promises both opportunities and challenges. The 25-year-old Portugal international, who has shown glimpses of his potential at Stamford Bridge, will now seek to make his mark in Italy’s Serie A.

The deal, which is expected to be finalized imminently, allows the Rossoneri to strengthen their attacking options as they look to make an impact in domestic and European competitions. However, with no option for Milan to make the move permanent, Felix’s future remains in the balance.

Loan Deal Structure and Financial Terms

Joao Felix’s loan to AC Milan is structured with a £5 million loan fee, which Chelsea will receive for the six-month spell. Milan, however, will not be under any obligation to purchase the striker at the end of the season, making this a temporary arrangement.

Gazzetta reports that Milan paid an initial €2 million for Felix’s loan, with additional add-ons amounting to €2.5 million, contingent on the club’s performance in the Champions League and other competitions. The Rossoneri will also be covering Felix’s full salary for the remainder of the season.

Felix’s Underwhelming Chelsea Stint

Joao Felix’s time at Chelsea has been a mixed bag, with flashes of brilliance overshadowed by inconsistent performances. The Portuguese forward, who signed permanently for the Blues in August after a previous loan spell, has struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. Having started just three Premier League games this season, Felix’s contributions have been largely in cup competitions.

His form, however, hasn’t been all bad. Felix scored seven goals in the 2024-25 season, including strikes in the 6-2 demolition of Wolves and a couple of impressive performances in the Conference League and FA Cup. Despite his talent, Felix’s situation at Chelsea hasn’t been ideal for either party, paving the way for this temporary switch.

Joao Felix’s Potential at AC Milan

Joining a club with the rich history and ambition of AC Milan presents a unique opportunity for Joao Felix. The Rossoneri, currently sitting in 8th place in Serie A, will benefit from Felix’s versatility and attacking flair. His ability to operate across the forward line provides Milan with options, especially in their upcoming Coppa Italia clash against Roma and their Champions League play-off against Feyenoord.

Milan’s manager will look to harness Felix’s creativity and goal-scoring ability, hoping that his presence will help push the team up the Serie A table and into European contention. If Felix can replicate his form from Chelsea’s cup matches in Italy, he could become a key figure in Milan’s hunt for trophies this season.

The Financial Side of the Deal

For Chelsea, the decision to send Felix out on loan with no option for a permanent transfer reflects the complexities of his situation. Despite paying €52 million for Felix’s services from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea has found it difficult to make the most of his talents. Milan, understanding the financial constraints, was unable to meet the Blues’ asking price for a permanent deal, especially considering the hefty sum Chelsea had already paid for the striker.

The loan agreement ensures Chelsea can still recoup some financial value while giving Felix the chance to prove himself elsewhere. The add-ons tied to Milan’s performance could further bolster Chelsea’s finances, ensuring that the deal remains beneficial for both clubs in the long run.
