Memory flashbacks of his charismatic leadership
Drug-fueled hallucinations experienced by surviving followers
The cross necklace serving as a physical reminder
Unfinished business from Season 2’s violent climax

Why Fans Thought Thanos Might Return

The confusion around Thanos’s potential survival stems from several factors:

His Larger-Than-Life Personality: The character’s distinct appearance, including purple hair and nail polish resembling the Infinity Stones, made him unforgettable to viewers.

T.O.P’s Powerful Performance: Despite facing controversy, Choi Seung-hyun delivered such a memorable portrayal that fans hoped for his return.

Unresolved Storylines: His relationship with Nam-gyu and the drug subplot left room for narrative continuation.

The Significance of Thanos’s “Appearance”

Even in death, Player 230 serves crucial narrative purposes in Season 3:

Character Development: Nam-gyu’s hallucinations showcase his psychological trauma
Thematic Continuity: The cross necklace represents false hope and manipulation
Emotional Weight: Thanos’s memory adds depth to surviving characters’ journeys

T.O.P’s Impact on the Character

Choi Seung-hyun, better known as T.O.P, a rapper who belonged to the K-pop band BigBang, was convicted of marijuana use in 2017. His real-life struggles with substance abuse added authenticity to Thanos’s drug-dependent character, making the role particularly poignant.
