Is Miguel O’Hara Really Miles Morales’ Enemy?

Trailers are built to make you believe things. The leaked footage for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse shows Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2099 locked in a brutal fight, but one writer thinks the real story might be very different.

What Spider-Verse Trailer Shows?

According to The Direct, the footage opens with Miles trying to appeal to Miguel O’Hara’s humanity. It doesn’t work, and a fight breaks out. The trailer then cuts to other moments, including a quiet scene between Miles and Gwen Stacy and a crowd-pleasing shot of Spider-Punk.

The most striking shots pit Miles against Miguel. A final frame shows Miguel on a rainy rooftop, watching portals from other universes open.

The Theory: Miguel Isn’t the Real Villain

The article, an opinion piece, points out that Miguel is a hero at heart. He leads the Spider-Society to protect the multiverse and wants to avoid repeating his past mistakes. His methods are harsh, but his goal is to save everything.

The writer’s theory is a late switch: Miguel deploys his agents to help Miles instead of stopping him. After all, a real threat to the multiverse needs addressing. This is speculation, not confirmed.

The Real Danger: The Spot

The Spot looms large in the footage. According to the article, he didn’t take Miles seriously in the last film, so he has been gathering more power. He plans to return to his original universe and cause chaos, starting with Jefferson Davis.

Miles will have help. Peter B. Parker and Gwen, who ignored Miguel’s orders to go after their friend at the end of the last film, are expected to be at his side. In a fight this big, the article argues, more allies are better, and Miguel’s army would be a major boost.

A Dynamic Duo?

The writer compares the pair to Superman and Batman: two opposite outlooks, one that sees the glass half full and one half empty. Together they could make a perfect team, even if they never fully agree.

Note that the footage is a leak, and a related headline says the film’s head has said it wasn’t fully rendered. Details may change.

Why It Matters?

Beyond the Spider-Verse is the final film in the trilogy that began with Into the Spider-Verse. Every trailer scene gets examined for clues, because the story ties up a lot of threads. If you want to revisit the story first, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the place to start.

Conclusion

It’s a good reminder that trailers show only part of the picture. A Miles and Miguel team-up would be a satisfying way to end the trilogy, but nobody knows yet. Until the film arrives in 2027, the debate is half the fun.
