IPL 2023: Disney Star increase their advertising rates by 20%, expecting to reach a even bigger audience this time

Disney Star has recently increased its advertising rates by 20% in IPL. The network now requires 12 to 13 lakhs per 10 seconds in IPL 2023. On the other hand, Star Sports has promised to give a reach of around 500 million. Disney Star has retained its television rights for Rs. 23,575 crores in the next five years.

The Disney Star has paid higher to grab the media rights. In 2022, the cost per match was Rs 54 crore but in 2023 the price per match will be Rs 57 crore for television. Digitally, the streaming packages have risen by 60-70%. Along with Disney Star, Jio Cinema will be reaching a total of 500 million viewers as well. The Jio Cinema will have 15 feeds in various languages.

Sanjog Gupta, the head of Star TV Network was reluctant to share targets and stated that the broadcaster will be looking to reach 70% of the audience which makes a number of around 730 million.

The IPL 2023 is going to get bigger as Viacom18 will be streaming the tournament in 11-15 languages. Earlier, the league was broadcast in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. In this edition, Bhojpuri, Bengali, and Gujarati were added to the list.

Bhojpuri is the second most spoken language in India after Hindi and streaming the match in this language will increase the number of viewers. Earlier, Viacom18 won the IPL digital rights for the Indian subcontinent for Rs 20,500. The cost price for each match is Rs 50 crore.

IPL 2023 will be taking place after exactly after one year, unlike the last three editions. Due to the Covid scene breaking out in the world, the matches were played over a gap of 18 months. The 2020 IPL edition was shifted to September-November, in 2021, the league started in April but got postponed due to the second wave of the pandemic. The remaining matches were held in October. In 2022, after the situation returned to normalcy, the IPL games were played from March to May, in a conventional way.
