Call of Duty: World War 2 has been making headlines recently, but not for the reasons players hoped. Following its addition to Xbox Game Pass, the game faced serious security issues that left many wondering about server availability. Here’s everything you need to know about the current server status and how it affects your gameplay.

Current Server Status Overview

According to the official Activision server status page, the servers are still online across all platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, and the Microsoft Store. However, the situation is more complex than it appears.

Platform-Specific Status

Platform	Status	Notes
PlayStation 4	✅ Online	Full access available
Xbox One	✅ Online	Console version unaffected
Steam	✅ Online	PC version working normally
Microsoft Store/Xbox Game Pass	⚠️ Restricted	Temporarily unavailable on PC

The Xbox Game Pass Security Issue

The main concern stems from hackers exploiting the game shortly after it was added to Xbox Game Pass, with reports of extreme hacks, most notably an RCE attack. This Remote Code Execution vulnerability allows malicious actors to execute code on players’ computers without consent – a serious cybersecurity threat.

What This Means for Players

Affected Users:

PC players accessing via Xbox Game Pass
Microsoft Store PC users

Unaffected Users:

PlayStation 4 players
Xbox One console players
Steam PC players

Developer Response & Safety Measures

The developers took immediate action by taking the game offline from the Microsoft Store on PC while they investigate the issue. This proactive approach demonstrates their commitment to player safety over convenience.

Current Protective Measures:

PC Microsoft Store access blocked
Xbox Game Pass PC launch disabled
Investigation ongoing
Other platforms remain secure

Recent Server Maintenance

Between the hours of 3 AM and 7 AM PT on Wednesday, July 2, various Call of Duty titles, including Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 2, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, World War 2, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), and Modern Warfare 3 (2023), will all be offline. This scheduled maintenance affects multiple titles but is separate from the security issues.

What’s Next?

The development team is actively investigating the RCE vulnerability. Call of Duty: World War 2 has not been removed from Xbox Game Pass, but the game cannot be launched at the moment on PC. This indicates a temporary restriction rather than permanent removal.
