iOS 18 Introduces Apple Intelligence with Initial Waitlist for Limited Preview

Exciting news from Apple as they prepare to roll out iOS 18, featuring the highly anticipated Apple Intelligence, codenamed “Graymatter”. According to findings by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, the latest code in iOS 18 reveals that this innovative feature will initially be available through a limited preview, accompanied by a waitlist.

What is Apple Intelligence?

Apple Intelligence, or “Graymatter”, promises to bring cutting-edge AI capabilities to iOS devices. As part of the iOS 18 beta testing phase, users will have the opportunity to experience these new features, albeit with some limitations. References found in the iOS 18 code include phrases like “Join the Graymatter Waiting List” and “Joined Waitlist,” indicating that not everyone will have immediate access.

Why a Waitlist?

The introduction of a waitlist for Apple Intelligence likely aims to manage demand and ensure a smooth rollout. This approach mimics strategies used by other AI services, such as ChatGPT, which have faced overwhelming demand at times. By controlling the number of initial users, Apple can better handle potential issues and gather valuable feedback during the beta period.

Availability and Supported Devices

While iPhone users eager to explore Apple Intelligence will need an iPhone 15 Pro or later, the feature will also be available on all iPhone 16 models, set to launch with iOS 18 pre-installed. This expansion in device compatibility means a broader user base will have access to Apple Intelligence at launch, further underscoring the importance of a controlled preview phase.

What to Expect During the Limited Preview

During the limited preview, Apple has cautioned that users may experience slower responses, particularly in unsupported regions. This is a common occurrence during beta testing phases, as developers work to optimize performance and address any issues that arise.

Looking Ahead

The summer beta testing period for iOS 18, including the debut of Apple Intelligence, marks a significant step forward in Apple’s AI capabilities. By implementing a waitlist and limited preview, Apple is taking careful measures to ensure a successful introduction of Graymatter to its loyal user base.
