Inter Milan have officially reached an agreement with Cristian Chivu to become their new head coach, marking a significant homecoming for the former player. The 44-year-old Romanian, who wore the black-and-blue jersey for six years and later developed young talent within Inter’s academy, is poised to replace Simone Inzaghi at the helm. The club is now ironing out final details of Chivu’s release from Parma, paving the way for a new managerial era at San Siro.

Cristian Chivu: A Familiar Face Returns to Lead the Nerazzurri

Cristian Chivu is no stranger to the Inter faithful. After donning the Inter Milan shirt between 2007 and 2014 and winning several major trophies, including the historic 2010 treble, he transitioned into coaching within the club’s youth setup in 2018. Over the years, he steadily climbed the ranks, working with different age groups and leaving a mark with his tactical acumen and leadership qualities.

Inter Milan Appoint Cristian Chivu as New Head Coach on Two-Year Deal

His deep connection to Inter and familiarity with the club’s culture and philosophy made him an appealing candidate for the top job. The decision reflects a growing trend among top European clubs of turning to former players who understand the club’s identity and values.

Contract Details Finalized After Intensive Negotiations

According to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, Chivu held multiple discussions with Inter officials, culminating in a successful meeting this afternoon where he accepted the club’s offer. The new deal will run for two years, providing Chivu a platform to shape the team with his vision.

“Cristian Chivu has agreed to a two-year deal in a meeting this afternoon,” the report confirmed.

While the terms between Chivu and Inter are now settled, one final hurdle remains. Inter must finalize the coach’s departure from Parma, where Chivu is still officially under contract. Talks with the Emilian club are expected to wrap up shortly, clearing the path for his formal presentation.

Replacing Inzaghi: A Shift in Strategy

The decision to part ways with Simone Inzaghi comes after the coach opted to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Inzaghi led Inter to multiple domestic successes, including Coppa Italia triumphs, but the club’s leadership is now turning to a new chapter under Chivu’s stewardship.

Interestingly, Chivu was not the only candidate on Inter’s radar. Former Spanish international and current Como manager Cesc Fabregas was reportedly a top target. However, Como’s president, Mirwan Suwarso, rejected any approach, stating firmly that the club would not release the Spaniard.

Patrick Vieira, currently managing Genoa, also featured in the shortlist but was eventually passed over in favor of Chivu’s appointment—one that represents both continuity and fresh ideas.

First Training Session Scheduled as Club World Cup Looms

Assuming the final contractual steps with Parma are resolved promptly, Chivu is expected to oversee his first training session on Monday at Appiano Gentile. Preparations will begin immediately for the Club World Cup in the United States—a major early test for the new coach.

The transition should be smooth, given Chivu’s deep familiarity with Inter’s training complex and internal systems. His six-year playing spell and subsequent six years in the club’s youth coaching ranks have forged strong relationships and built trust within the institution.
