Intel Raptor Lake Core i9-13980HX Laptop CPU matches some high-end Desktop CPUs in Performance

The Intel Core i9-13980HX Raptor Lake-HX CPU has been sighted once more, this time inside an MSI Raider GE78HX laptop and promising high-end desktop-class performance out of the box. The Intel Core i9-13980HX is likely to be a beast of a CPU in terms of performance and power consumption on laptops. However, for those seeking the best of the best, this is the route to choose.

The Intel Core i9-13980HX Raptor Lake-HX CPU has 8 P-Cores based on the Raptor Cove architecture and 16 E-Cores based on the Gracemont architecture. The entire setup features 24 cores and 32 threads, the same as the desktop Core i9-13900K. The CPU features the same 36 MB of L3 cache as the Core i9-12950HX/Core i9-12900HX CPUs and a maximum turbo frequency of up to 5.6 GHz, which is 600 MHz faster. The CPU will be one of several Raptor Lake-HX/H/P choices that will be available at CES 2023.

REHWK discovered the latest Intel Core i9-13980HX Raptor Lake-HX CPU entry, which displays MSI’s Raider GE78HX laptop equipped with the chip and 32 GB of DDR5 memory. The CPU rises up to 5.56 GHz, which is near to its maximum boost rate of 5.6 GHz.

This is the strongest performance result we’ve seen of the Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU so far, with the chip getting 2097 points in single-core and 22062 points in multi-core tests.

The Core i9-13980HX Raptor Lake-HX CPU in ASUS and ACER laptops has also leaked, however their scores will change due to various power objectives and cooling designs. So far, it appears that MSI has the greatest cooling design for this CPU.

The Intel Core i9-13980HX Raptor Lake-HX CPU simply annihilates everything. It is clearly faster than the desktop Core i7-13700K and Ryzen 9 7900X, but it also comes very near to AMD’s top Zen 4 desktop CPU right now, the Ryzen 9 7950X.

This is quite impressive, and we can’t wait to see laptops with the chip on store shelves, but they’ll cost roughly $3000-$4000 US. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series will be combined with some of the fastest GPUs on the market, making for one heck of a portable gaming machine. MSI is also preparing the Titan GT77 HX Laptop, which will be introduced at CES 2023 and will feature the world’s first 4K/144Hz Mini LED display with Intel Raptor Lake-HX CPUs.
