Instagram Tests ‘Lockable Posts’ for Exclusive Content

Instagram is currently testing a new feature called ‘Lockable Post’, which allows creators to hide content behind a secret code. Your followers will be prompted to enter this code to view the hidden post. Although the feature was teased just recently, Instagram has not announced when it will actually roll out.

Instagram Tests ‘Lockable Posts’ Feature for Exclusive Content Behind Secret Codes

Instagram’s official Design account shared a sneak peek of Lockable Posts, showing us a sneak look at how the feature would work. In the example, users were asked to input a code, which could be guessed based on hints given on the lock screen and in the caption of the post. The proper code, ‘threads’, opened a reel that just said “coming soon.” This means Instagram could be getting ready to launch the feature soon.

The new Lockable Posts feature might enable creators and brands to provide exclusive content to followers on the platform, which could eventually lead to higher engagement, according to Social Samosa on X. It can also be used as a marketing content tool, where businesses can only make their content available to users who unlock it. For everyday users, it might be a way to share certain posts just with select followers. So far, Instagram has only showcased the feature with a reel. It’s not clear whether posts of other types—such as photos, carousels, or longer videos—will be supported when the feature goes live, either.

The post from Instagram’s Design account suggests that the company is actively developing Lockable Posts, but key details remain unknown. There is no confirmed launch date, and it’s unclear whether Instagram plans to release the feature globally all at once or introduce it in phases. In conclusion, combining Lockable Post with some other updates can add a new layer of exclusive engagement to Instagram, which can help employees, brands, and even normal people to have control over who can view part of the content shared on their dashboard.
